Inspiration for my Land and Seascapes

I grew up on the West Coast of Scotland close to the mountains and sea lochs.

Summer days are precious in Scotland, sun on your face, warm gentle breezes - enough to blow the midges away, making daisy chains whilst the bees buzz about are all precious memories, along with the winter rain, being soaked to the skin, hands red raw and icicles in wet hair. You knew you were alive on those days!

Without realising it, these interactions were all shaping my love of the outdoors, regardless of the seasons.

Today, I live in Aberdeenshire on the East coast of Scotland and I’m at my happiest being outside breathing in the fresh air and taking in the colours, the changing light, the weather, and in general feeling just a little bit insignificant in the great scheme of nature.

I marvel at what nature can throw at us, from dark brooding skies, stormy seas, and wild winds to sparkling water, clear blue skies, and barley creating waves caught by a gentle breeze in the field.

Nature has become my inspiration for all of the above but it also gives me space, it quietens my mind, it gives me a chance to take a moment and these are all the elements I want to capture.  The turquoise waters off the West coast, the patterns in the white sands, the mists swirling around the mountains, the sense of solitude and quiet - all a balm to the soul.

Can I get it onto canvas?

I never know what each day will bring and as I’m out and about I never stop looking for little snippets of inspiration for the next project.
