The Art of Making Art Workshop

What a day it was , full of creativity and absolutely non stop. The venue was super the refreshments excellent and I think everyone went home happy, inspired and ready to paint.

The workshop participants were either complete beginners or those wishing to get painting again after a spell away, or simply wanting to refresh their ideas and try something new.

The day started with us exploring lots of different media, inks, oil pastels, acrylics, pritt stick and PVA, you name it, we experimented with it. The words “what if…” were used frequently. What if I put this and this together , what happens if I do this ? Permission to find out, permission to play and what fun it was.

We discussed colours, our use of complimentary and harmonious colour alongside the importance of choosing the right colour should we want to use some in underpainting. We took a moment to consider composition and some of the rules that will enhance a painting and we even managed a quick chat about texture in our work.

We worked together on a seascape with a minimum colour palette as an icebreaker. What a great way to build confidence and the results were stunning. Everyones’ was different and everyone nailed it.

After lunch everyone started their own project. That can be a little bit daunting but I was so pleased with how they all embraced the challenge. When I think some had never picked up a paintbrush and for others it had been several years it was a big ask from me.

The group were amazing and as I flitted round the tables giving a bit of advice here and there it was great to see them giving it their all.

Thank you !

Below are some of the images from the afternoon project when the group used the tools from the early part of the day to create their own individual piece.

Two more photos to come , will add them when I get them.

If you would like to have go on the next The Art of Making Art Workshop but aren’t sure please read the reviews and take a look at the fantastic work that was produced on the day.

I really enjoyed it, there is nothing nicer than giving people the tools to be creative and to watch them flourish. Come join me on the next creative day !

“it was worth every mile I travelled, as I learned so much in one day. I think you have transformed my view of painting in acrylics. Now I need some one to do that in watercolour for me, but I am going to use my acrylics - and yours - much more, it’s so much less stressful and more fun…I think what I felt on the day was that it was all so easy and you balanced it all quite right with enough time to work and then a break.” Olga

“A  great day playing with paints without any pressure, and suitable for anyone, whatever your ability. Jane’s knowledge, passion and gentle guidance helped us all create something we could be proud of at the end of the day. Highly recommended!” Valerie

“Jane’s enthusiasm for her craft and for teaching helped this complete beginner take home something amazing. With a lot of help and encouragement I found I could possibly have a go at home. I would love to really learn to create my own art. Thank you Jane.” Chris

“Thank you very much for an excellent day.The day was well planned, each session separated with breaks for refreshments and conversation making it an enjoyable experience. You are an enthusiastic teacher and with well thought out exercises we were able to bring away finished paintings. It was a great day to encourage us all for the future.Thank you once again.”Neil

“I had a fantastic day with you yesterday, your guidance and enthusiasm to teach us so many techniques whilst keeping it fun was great for myself as a beginner. I came away with so much from the course and loved that everything was written up in the handbook so I didn’t have to remember everything 😂 I was buzzing with ideas afterwards and will definitely be experimenting and creating more abstract paintings in the future.”  Hazel
