Skyscapes and Oils
Saturday 18th January 2025
Delgatie Castle, Turriff
The first thing I do in a painting is the sky. it sets the tone for the piece and fires up my imagination.
Over the years I have worked in both acrylic and oils but I now find myself always reaching for the oils to create the skies. The ability to blend and add nuances of colour is just so much easier.
On this course we will work with both. Acrylics play a key role in building the foundation blocks for an epic sky. The next layer will be oils and I can show you how I go about creating the atmosphere.
We will begin with discussing underpainting and the use of complimentary colours. A great colour on the base of your painting can and will affect the sky above.
There will be time to talk about composition and how we can use the sky to lead the viewers eye down and then tips to lead them round and through your painting.
In the afternoon you will create a piece on a 50 x 50 cm canvas where the sky really is the feature of the painting. I’ll guide you through the process and you’ll go home with all the tools to create beautiful skies in your paintings.
All materials and canvas will be provided, all you need to do is arrive ready to have a lovely creative day.
Refreshments of morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea will also be provided thorughout the day by the team at the castle.
Please note this course is suitable for those who have some experience in painting.
An email will be sent out one week before the course with further information .
Please read full details + terms below before booking.
